Kljestan Happy Back In The Game
Fresh from his first start in exactly two months, Anderlecht midfielder Sacha Kljestan was quite pleased after going all 90 minutes to help his side top Europa League guests AEK Athens on Thursday night.
The American originally missed some time with an ankle injury and then needed time to work his way back into the Mauves 4-3-3 formation.
"I only knew a couple of hours prior to the game (that I would start against AEK)," Kljestan, whose rebound was netted for Anderlecht's winner, told Belgian paper Het Nieuwsblad.
"The last couple of weeks I've been working hard in practice. My confidence grew. Assistant coach Besnik Hasi devoted a lot of time to me."
Kljestan also admitted that, despite some intial success, there was always going to be a transitional period after arriving from Chivas USA and Major League Soccer this summer.
"It took me some time to adapt to Belgium," he stated. "At the start of the season, I did play, but I didn't do enough. Now I'm no longer afraid to try things."
Kljestan and third place Anderlecht return to league play Sunday with a visit from Westerlo.

AC Milan coach downplays Onyewu-Ibra bust-up
Allegri says two have kissed and made up after Friday brawl
AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri played down Friday?s training session brawl between US national team defender Oguchi Onyewu and goal-scoring star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
There are two different accounts of what took place in the afternoon scrimmage at the rossoneri's Milanello training facility. The Gazzetta dello Sport indicates that Ibrahimovic made a hard sliding tackle on Onyewu, while Corriere dello Sport has it the other way around. Either way, the two exchanged blows and reports have Onyewu grabbing Ibrahimovic by the neck.
The two were separated by teammates and coaching staff and after receiving an earful from the manager, the session resumed.
?Absolutely nothing happened,? Allegri said on Saturday. ?This [incident] was exaggerated. There were kisses and hugs [Friday] and it?s all over. Absolutely nothing happened. ? We haven?t seen the last kiss.?
Onyewu, who has played just one Champions League game for AC Milan against FC Zurich in 2009, was not called up to the travel squad that will meet Bari in a road match on Sunday.
?Yes it?s true,? AC Milan?s chief administrator, Adriano Galliani, told SkySport24. ?There was a pretty lively clash between the two during training and the session was suspended for a bit. It happens often on soccer fields and the news only came out because it was seen by a fan in the stands since we were training on an external field.
?Nonetheless, the players cleared the air. I spoke at length with both of them and it?s case closed. It?s a good sign. I like to see players revved up for training. I prefer these kinds of training sessions than practices ala camomile.?

Friedel can't hold off Fulham rally; Holden helps Bolton stay hot
AMSTERDAM ? It was another busy Saturday for Americans in Europe on Saturday, with Clint Dempsey and Fulham rallying at the death for a 1-1 draw with Brad Friedel's visiting Aston Villa.
Friedel was at his best to stonewall Dempsey before halftime and Andy Johnson after, but eventually fell victim to Houston-born Cottager Brede Hangeland's equalizing free-kick header deep into stoppage time.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Stuart Holden went the distance as Bolton climbed tentatively into fifth place with a 4-2 defeat of Tottenham.
Everton fought back twice and netminder Tim Howard made a big late stop to preserve a 2-2 draw at Blackpool.
Marcus Hahnemann and Wolverhampton nearly escaped Old Trafford with point, but would suffer at the death as Manchester United left it very late for a 2-1 win.
Over in Germany's Bundesliga, Michael Bradley put in a full shift as Borussia Mönchengladbach slugged it out with guests Bayern Munich in a 3-3 draw.
However, Ricardo Clark was an unused sub as Eintracht Frankfurt climbed to third with a 3-1 victory over Wolfsburg.
Finally, Tom Tomsk forward Evgeny Starikov worked the opening hour of a 1-0 loss at Anzhi Makhachkala.

Cherundolo, Beasley play in loss; Kljestan, Goodson see draws
AMSTERDAM ? Several Americans laced 'em up in Europe on Sunday, with Maurice Edu working a solid shift as Rangers stayed tops in Scotland with a 3-1 win at St. Mirren.
German Bundesliga action saw Hannover 96 blasted 4-0 by table-toppers Borussia Dortmund, with Steve Cherundolo going the route at right back and winger DaMarcus Beasley on for the final 33 for the beaten hosts.
In Belgium, Sacha Kljestan was booked early, but went the distance as second place Anderlecht rallied for a 2-2 draw against visiting rivals Club Brugge.
Over in Spain's La Liga, Jozy Altidore watched from the dugout as Villarreal stayed third with a 4-1 rout of Athletic Bilbao.
In Sweden, Alejandro Bedoya saw yellow as Örebro SK lost 1-0 at Trelleborgs to finish the season in third place.
From closing day in Norway's top flight, Clarence Goodson played all of his final contest for eighth place IK Start in a see-saw 3-3 share with FK Haugesund.
Mikkel Diskerud completed his 29th start of the season as Stabæk ended up 12th with a 1-0 loss at Molde FK.
A flight down, Colin Burns served as back-up 'keeper as Sparta Sarpsborg trounced Alta 4-0 to finish league runners up and take the automatic elevator to the Tippeligaen.
