BackThree games from retirement, Chicago striker still not coasting
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — Chicago Fire forward Brian McBride may only have three games left in his career, but you wouldn’t know it from watching him practice.
The three-time World Cup vet is still bringing his workman-like attitude out to the Toyota Park training ground each day, even putting in a little extra work on Monday, when he performed a post-practice shooting drill with a couple of teammates.
“I just want to be a part of this team and enjoy the last three games,” McBride told MLSsoccer.com Monday. “I want to play with a lot of heart and integrity. And whether I’m playing or not playing I just want to be there as a teammate.”
McBride, who was honored on Saturday night at the US-Poland match, went the full 90 and scored a goal in the Fire’s 2-0 win over Columbus last Friday night. On Tuesday, the Fire take on the Kansas City Wizards at Toyota Park.
Chicago head coach Carlos de los Cobos said on Monday that either McBride or Collins John will start up top alongside with Freddie Ljungberg.
